“get comfortable being uncomfortable”.
That’s a standard inspirational quote in fitness.
It is outside our comfort zone that change happens. Great things happen.
There’s no point having a goal that doesn’t scare you a little. That’s how you know it is a goal you’ll have to work for.
I’m not comfortable with cardio. I don’t even have to push to not be comfortable with it.
My anxiety makes me question every single thing my body feels whilst I’m doing it.
Even though I’ve had 24 hour heart tests and more and there is nothing wrong, I convince myself something might be. Something is.
Maybe my aversion to cardio is because I don’t see quick results.
Lifting weights, you can get a new “result” every week. Every time you do the same muscle group again, it is easy to know that you’re getting somewhere.
But I don’t see that with cardio. Maybe I don’t use it enough in my every day. Maybe I’m lazy.
Maybe my aversion to cardio is because I see so many women that are scared of weights.
That come in and spend hours on the bikes or treadmills because they are scared they’ll “get big”.
I don’t want people to think I’m one of those women. (I know this is not every woman doing cardio in the gym and that isn’t what I’m saying. My experience from interactions as a trainer)
I also want to be lifting weights when I’m in the gym with other women around do they can see how good it makes me feel and maybe they’ll try it too.
The thing is though, they benefit each other.
The stronger you are, the better your endurance. The better your recovery.
The fitter you are, the better you can lift. The better your body functions in your day to day activities.
I feel like a hypocrite for not really doing cardio.
I do boxing once or twice a week. That is all.
And I think I need to do more.
It is easy to find excuses or plain say “I don’t like it”
But how am I meant to inspire people like that?
How am I meant to expect people to get comfortable being uncomfortable with whatever it is they need to do to get the results they want if I can’t do it myself.
So I’m going to do 20 hours of cardio in the next 20 days, outside of my personal training sessions.
Anna I challenge you to do something that makes you uncomfortable.
I’ll go on the journey with you.
Let me know what that is.
What is your weakest point?
Your weakest lift, body part, running, swimming, riding.
What are you going to do with me?
