My son is almost 7.
He is a little punk.
Quite frankly, he lives by his own rules.
He wanted his ears pierced for months and I told him that if he really wanted them, that was fine, but he needed to take responsibility for them.
He went to his kindy teacher, got her to email the principal and find out if he was allowed to have them and what ones he needed to have.He even got them done one at a time, tough as nails.
We’ve never dictated how he has to have his hair, other than it being kept clean and tidy (eg, brush it)
Never told him what he can and can’t wear as long as it is not inappropriate.
He is being called gay at school, because he has both his ears pierced.
Because he has his fucking ears pierced.
What the actual hell.
In my beautiful son’s eyes, he is upset not because people are calling him gay, but because they’re saying it like it is a bad thing.
He is very much of the attitude “I can live my life how they want and they can do what they like.”
He doesn’t want to take his earrings out so that kids who he’s not even friends with pick on him less.
He knows those kids won’t be around forever.
Told me that they are just bucket tippers, and a bucket tipper is a bully.
And don’t get me wrong, I know kids can be nasty.
Kids say and do some horrible things.
But seriously – what the actual fuck are people saying in their homes that make 11 year olds think that being gay is the best insult out there?
You can say “oh, it’s just a joke. ”
Do you know why it isn’t a joke?
People fucking DIE over who they love.
Not that funny now, is it.
